My New Mantra...

"Fear can hold you prisoner.  Hope can set you free."

Those are such poignant words.

The line is from the movie The Shawshank Redemption.  If you haven't seen it, you must.  It is one you will never forget.

"Fear can hold you prisoner.   Hope can set you free."

My friend Bets has posted these words as her Facebook status a couple of times lately.  I haven't had the opportunity to talk to her about it yet but it is my hope that her use of these words means she is overcoming a fear - soaring above it with all the strength I know she has.

Fear can be the devil.  It can keep you awake at night.  It can prevent you from sharing your most precious talents with the world.  It can cause you to hide the truth from even yourself.

Fear has been a frequent visitor of mine lately.  There are a couple of things lurking in the darkness.  Today I shall share one of them with you.  You see, I'm about to embark on a new part-time adventure.  Yes, I'm taking a part time job!

I haven't worked in well over a year.  When I did work I was so cuddled in to my comfort zone that each day was just one more "groundhog day".  This is a whole new business and a whole new world - not to mention that I will be expected to be somewhere five days a week at 9:00 AM!  Oh, the horror!

Seriously, what if I fail?  What if I am not successful?  A large portion of this position involves telephone sales.  Not "cold calls" but still telephone sales.

I am not a fan of rejection.  Hell, I'm not a fan of constructive criticism!  I am however a "people person" and I am very good on the phone.  This is only a small snippet of the conversations that go through my head.  And yes, it can get a little crazy inside my head!

"Fear can hold you prisoner.  Hope can set you free."  This shall be my manta.  I will repeat it each day as I brush my teeth, peddle that dang exercise bike, drive to my new job and oh, let's not forget, during those times in the night when fear knocks on the door and wants to be my companion.
